Disc Golf Zuidrand Heads to the III Catalunya Open in Barcelona

While Belgium endures its typical winter weather, 15 players from the Belgian disc golf community—including members of Disc Golf Zuidrand and other clubs—are heading to sunny Barcelona for the III Catalunya Open presented by CRK. This event, set against the backdrop of the growing Spanish disc golf scene, promises an unforgettable weekend of Mediterranean vibes and competitive fun.

The Belgian contingent is the second largest at the tournament, trailing only the local Spanish players. It’s a testament to our community’s passion for the sport and eagerness to explore new opportunities. Notably, Belgium is bringing some serious talent to the competition, including the highest-rated player in the field and top-rated players across four different categories. Belgians will be competing in every category, showcasing the depth of our disc golf scene.

The tournament will take place in the beautiful Hostal del Fum park, located in Palau-solità i Plegamans, approximately 30 kilometers from Barcelona's city center. This picturesque course offers a mix of technical challenges and scenic views. You can check out the course details on UDisc here: Hostal del Fum on UDisc.

The event kicks off on Friday, January 31, with friendly doubles, followed by two intense rounds on Saturday, February 1. The final round wraps up the action on Sunday morning, February 2. Many players are arriving as early as Wednesday or Thursday to practice and acclimate to the course.

For those staying home, you can track the action live via the PDGA website (event page) or DiscGolfMetrix (live scores).

Here’s to a great weekend of disc golf under the Mediterranean sun. Good luck to all the Belgian players representing our community at the III Catalunya Open!
